Based on conversations with the City of Erie, its council and the public, it was determined the proposed roundabouts and pedestrian bridges included in the Bayfront Parkway Central Corridor Improvement Project would undergo a peer review to ensure the best results are achieved in meeting the purpose and need of the project and the safety needs of all users.
The roundabout peer review consultant is Kittelson & Associates of Harrisburg, nationally recognized experts on roundabouts with a focus on pedestrian safety. The pedestrian peer review consultant is T.Y. Lin International of Philadelphia.
The peer reviews will evaluate a variety of factors to ensure the design is compliant with federal, state, and industry guidelines. The roundabout peer review will review information related to pedestrian safety and will ensure the roundabouts are the right size to balance the needs of all users. The pedestrian bridge peer review will evaluate aesthetics, costs, alignments, and ease of usage. Both peer reviews will also review any concerns brought forth through the public involvement process to determine if there is a need for updates to the design to address those concerns.
