Public Plans Display – September 2021

The meetings were held in virtual and face-to-face format and gave members of the public opportunities to review updates of different aspects of the project as well as ask questions and give feedback on the plans.

Proposed improvements along the central portion of Bayfront Parkway, which includes Sassafras Street Extension, State Street, and Holland Street, focus on upgrades to the pedestrian and bicycles amenities, as well as the traffic needs. During the meetings, the public received an update on the plans, a summary of the recent peer reviews of the proposed roundabouts and Holland Street pedestrian bridge, as well as the anticipated project timelines and phases.

Erie City Council Study Session – May 2021

PennDOT offered an update on the Bayfront Parkway Central Corridor Improvement Project to Erie City Council on May 5, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. The Council Study Session, which was conducted virtually by the City of Erie on the Zoom platform as well as streamed live on the City of Erie’s YouTube, was open to the public to view and provide comment/questions. PennDOT provided a general status update of the project, as well as provided an update on the peer review recently conducted for the proposed roundabouts at Sassafras Street and Holland Street and also the peer review of the pedestrian bridge at Holland Street. City of Erie Public Hearing – September 2020

PennDOT offered an update on the Bayfront Parkway Central Corridor Improvement Project during the City of Erie’s virtual public hearing on September 24, 2020, at 5:30 p.m.  Members of the public were notified virtually of the public hearing through PennDOT news release, the City of Erie website, and the project website. Those wishing to participate and offer feedback during the virtual public hearing were asked to register for the meeting in advance through the City of Erie website.  Those who were unable to participate in the hearing were encouraged to submit their feedback in writing to the City of Erie. The public hearing was conducted through the Zoom platform and a recording can be viewed on the City of Erie’s YouTube page:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btWTXTVh_as


Announcement of Preferred Alternative – April 2020

PennDOT announced the preferred alternatives for the Bayfront Parkway Central Corridor Improvement Project on April 29, 2020.  In addition, PennDOT announced that through the collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) classification for the project has been reclassified from an Environmental Assessment (EA) to a Level 2 Categorical Exclusion Evaluation (CEE) as the FHWA found the project, as proposed, will not either individually or cumulatively have any significant or adverse environmental impacts.

PennDOT and the Design Team intended on making the announcement during an in-person public meeting, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic this announcement was conducted virtually through the PennDOT news release and the project website. The public was encouraged to continue providing feedback on the project by submitting their comments through the project website.  The news release can be viewed here.
